It was my turn to try out skydiving. I was up in the Bay of Islands on the North Island of New Zealand. It was here that I decided to do skydiving for the first time ever. Before I had even got there I was starting to freak out.
When we got to the skydiving place we had to go through a little bit of paperwork and fully decide which jump we would be doing. I had chosen to jump out of the plane at 20,000 feet, the best value for money. After that was over, we had to meet with our jumpmasters and then we had to get suited up. All of us who were jumping looked so funny in all our gear.
In the plane with us were several others. One who was doing the 20,000 feet jump like me. Then several of the others on the plane were all jumping out at 12,000 feet. When we got to the 12,000 ft mark, they opened up the door and they all jumped out one by one. It felt like I blinked and they were all gone.
From there we had to wear oxygen masks to help us breathe and when we reached the correct altitude I had to help my jumpmaster open the door. It was the first-ever time I had been on a plane with the door open. The flight down went by in what felt like a blink of an eye but when we opened the parachute I was able to help him guide it to some degree. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had.
The experience did set me back a bit of money but I would have to say that the whole thing was worth every bit of money that I did manage to spend. I would recommend to everyone to try out doing skydiving at one point in their lives.
